Many have a signature hairstyle, like Anna Wintour and her signature bob. She’s lightened the color over the years (brighter and softer on the face as she’s aged) but the cut has been virtually the same for over 20 years. You can date her by her outfits but never by her hair.
Then some are totally opposite and wouldn’t dream of wearing their hair the same way two days straight, much less 20 years.
No matter where you fall on the spectrum, a new year is a perfect time to change up your look if you’re so inclined.
If you’ve ever made a hairstyle change you’ve regretted, consider these low-risk options. They’ll help you make subtle changes with a big impact, while avoiding a makeover disaster.
With our New Year’s special, “Our Solutions to Your Resolutions.”, you can save money on making a change: Get a Free Haircut and Blowdry/Style with Color Service. Good January 1st through January 31st, 2015.
Get Highlights Or Lowlights
If you’ve always dreamed of going lighter, but the thought of covering your head in peroxide gives you night terrors, then subtle highlights may be for you. Your hairstylist can use a sheer toner over highlighted hair to subtly enhance the color, richen it and make it more three dimensional. If you’re already blonde but have always dreamed of going to the dark side, add some lowlights!
Rock A Fringe
Bangs are totally in, but you might not be ready to commit to their maintenance and hairstyle limitations. Start with a longer side-swept bang to adjust to a fringed look. Go a bit shorter each trim, to your comfort level and a great look for you. And don’t fret, it’s just hair, it will grow back.
Change Your Part
This tip may sound ridiculously obvious, but think about it: when was the last time you changed the way you part your hair? Deep side parts are hot, and switching your part can reveal new angles on your face.
Guys, You Too
Take a look in the mirror. Have you been working that same haircut since you were in high school? Many guys do have a tendency to get stuck in a rut, being comfortable with the same look and often stick to the old saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Here’s the deal. If you’ve had the same haircut for a decade, it is “broke,” so to speak, and it’s time to change your hairstyle. Ever wonder why women change their hairstyles so often? It’s simple. They know that changing up the ‘do is a fairly easy and inexpensive way to change up their look.
So, why bother? Well, the haircut you currently have may not be flattering your facial features for one thing. Sure, it may have worked a decade ago, but your face changes over time. Especially if you are maturing, an updated haircut can help you look younger into middle age (and beyond). Second, a new haircut is a great way to get noticed and keep you current.
