The curriculum focuses on gaining knowledge in areas such as personnel management, product selection, scheduling, and effective communication. If you’ve always dreamed of owning your own business or managing a salon/spa, keep reading to learn more about what you could learn in our program. Here are some of our favorite salon management courses.

How to Manage a SalonSalon and Spa Types
Understanding what kind of salon or spa you would like to manage or own is an early step in planning your career path. This class covers a variety of spa styles: day spas, health spas, resorts, or holistic spas—to name just a few. You might enjoy managing a hair salon, a skin treatment salon, or a nail salon. Here, you can begin imagining what exactly you want your daily career life to look like.

Salon Record Keeping
You entered this profession because you love cosmetology and like helping people feel beautiful. Now, you need to gain the necessary business skills to create a successful salon or spa. Record keeping, or basic accounting, is one of the most important skills you’ll need. In this course, you can learn how to manage your business expenses, record transactions on a balance sheet, and complete a business tax return.

Labor Related Laws
To be a responsible and law-abiding manager, you must have knowledge of labor laws. This class covers many of laws that your business will need to follow. A few examples include:
•  The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which establishes minimum wages, overtime pay, and similar issues.
•  The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) allows eligible employees to take an extended leave of absence due to illness, caring for a sick family member, or other family emergencies.
• The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prevents discrimination against workers with disabilities and mandates reasonable accommodations.

Merchandising Your Salon
Selling retail is an important part of ensuring your salon or spa brings in a profit. Creating a pleasing display, choosing the right products, and setting a budget are necessary for strong merchandising. This class will touch on where to place your retail products, how to make displays appealing, and how to promote or market your message.

Business Insurance
To protect your business, you will need to decide on the right kind of coverage. This class introduces students to the various kinds of business insurance, why you need to maintain coverage, and how to choose the best policy for your business.
