Get That Glow with These Esthetician-Approved Spring Skin Care Tips

Breathe in that fresh air: Spring is here.

The right skin care routine will help you break out of hibernation, looking more awake than ever. It’s time to give that routine an update with products perfect for warmer months. These tips will get your skin feeling as fresh as a daisy.

Skin Care Tips for Warm Weather:

Choose a Quality Serum

Serums might come in tiny bottles, but they pack a lot of punch. They contain a high concentration of active ingredients that sink deep into the skin. There are a lot of serum varieties to suit different skincare needs. Here are some that are ideal for warm spring weather:

  • Vitamin C Serum: Planning to enjoy the warm weather by getting outside? You’ll need to don armor against potential sunburn. Vitamin C is the ultimate fighter against hyperpigmentation. But driving away redness isn’t the only benefit of vitamin C. This ingredient also brightens the skin to give you the ultimate glow.
  • Hyaluronic Serum: Like plants, you need water to thrive. Nourish your skin with a moisturizing hyaluronic serum. This serum’s hydrating effects will plump up your skin. Your skin will be as dewy as a freshly watered garden.
  • Retinol Serum: These products renew your skin by encouraging collagen production. Retinol serums lessen the appearance of wrinkles and sun damage. Apply them at night, being careful not to be in sunlight for 6-8 hours.

Stay Hydrated

With the warm weather comes the risk of dry, flaky skin. Avoid the drought by drinking lots of water. Drinking lots of water is essential to keeping your skin (and the rest of your body) hydrated.

However, water isn’t the only way to give your skin a hydrating boost. Eating fruits and veggies will also help moisturize your skin. The bonus? These healthy foods contain the same nutrients found in many skincare products. They’re called superfoods for a reason, after all.

Lighten Up on the Moisturizer

Shed those heavy moisturizers like a down coat. While thick moisturizers keep your skin healthy in cold weather, they can leave a greasy layer come spring. Lightweight products keep the skin hydrated without leaving behind food for acne.

Spring Clean Your Pores

Being outside comes with increased exposure to the elements that can clog up your pores. Exfoliators help prevent clogged pores, acne and blackheads. It also makes it healthier by clearing away dead skin cells.

Worried that an exfoliator is too harsh for your skin? No need to fear! Cleansers with exfoliating properties are a gentler way to clean up your skin. Keep your eye out for products labeled “micro exfoliants” and “gentle scrubs.”

Keep Your Makeup Brushes Clean

Reapplying makeup with dirty makeup brushes will apply oils that can clog up your pores. A simple rinse with a brush cleanser is all you need to dodge whiteheads and blackheads.

You might also want to consider lightening up on makeup products. Using lightweight products allows your skin to breathe in that springtime air. Trading foundation for BB cream and lipstick for tinted lip balm are simple swaps that help your skin.

Don’t Forget the SPF

We’ve saved the most important tip for last: Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!

Wrinkles and pigmentation aren’t the worst effects of sun exposure. Direct contact with UV rays can lead to skin cancer. Wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30 goes a long way in keeping your skin healthy. Make sure to reapply sunscreen every couple of hours to keep the benefits going.
