If nature hasn’t blessed you with naturally long and thick lashes and the idea of sporting fake eyelashes doesn’t float your boat, no worries, there are steps you can take to create more alluring lashes.  Inappropriate care of eyelashes as well as using bad makeup are two of the biggest culprits in creating less-than beautiful lashes.  Nice eyelashes instantly brighten a face, and by following these absolutely must know tips on how to care for eyelashes, you’ll be on your way to naturally healthier and prettier lashes.

Don’t Sleep in Makeup. Ever.

This first tip is pretty obvious; remember to take off your makeup before you go to sleep. Leaving mascara on can cause your lashes to fall out prematurely, which is a big setback if you’re looking to get long and full lashes. This is probably one of the most important things you can do for better lashes.

Brush Them Out

Run a CLEAN mascara wand through your lashes a few times in the morning. Just the act of brushing them out will separate the follicles and give the appearance of a fuller lash line. In the same way that disentangling your hair makes it look healthier, brushing your lashes will add a bit of natural flair to them. And you don’t even need mascara.

Condition, Condition, Condition

What do you do when you want your hair to look nice? You condition it! And what are eyelashes? Hair!  Eyelash nourishment is an integral part of eyelash care. The best at-home remedies to nourish lashes are various vegetable and essential oils, among which are olive, almond, coconut, and burdock oil. Moreover if you mix it with vitamin A and E solutions, you will strengthen your eyelashes as well.  Apply daily with a clean mascara wand and the payoff would come in due time.

Don’t Rub Your Eyes

Rubbing your eyes too roughly can pull on the roots of your eyelashes, and cause them to fall out. They won’t just start jumping out, but you’ll probably come away with two or three lashes on your fingers each time you rub hard. If your eyes are itchy, try gently patting or massaging the area.

Use Fake Eyelashes & Extensions Sparingly

Yes, fake eyelashes are the perfect makeup tool. Pop a pair on, and you really don’t need to do anything else to your makeup. However, the glue used to put the fake lashes on can hurt your real ones by making them stick together or pulling on them as you remove the fake ones. You don’t have to ditch fake lashes altogether, but try to limit your use to special occasions.

Careful with That Curler!

If you use an eyelash curler when putting on your mascara, just be very careful not to squeeze very hard. If you feel a tugging sensation on the roots of your lashes, stop! As handy as those little tools might be, they can just as easily pull out a few lashes as they can curl them.

Take a Break

Toss out and replace your mascara every 3 months, and use products made for sensitive eyes, to lessen the chance of eye and lash line irritation.  Then once in a while, consider a complete break from makeup; it can do your lashes – and your face – wonders!  Summer is a perfect time to go au naturelle, with occasional makeup free days!  If you don’t want to go cold turkey, perhaps emphasize a different part of your face, with perhaps a great pop of summer color on your lips. Take the focus away from your eyes and give your lashes a breather.
