Fall Hair Trends

Curious about what hair trends are already showing up for fall? While catwalks have long been the birthplace of many hair trends, this year proved that a major sporting event like the U.S. Open could also make major fashion waves.

Venus Williams rocked natural texture in 90% humidity while still looking flawless and chic. Both sisters have always been hair chameleons, and both have that gorgeous luxurious texture! Venus’s braided ’do was everything that’s needed for fall hair: volume, texture, a deep side part, polish.  The volume made the style almost regal and the braids in the back gave the style a modern edge.

Wearing natural hair is not just limited to curly- and extremely curly-haired girls; type-4 coils (whether zigzag or spiral) can be stunning without the help of irons or chemicals. We’re obsessed with deep side parts on textured hair, and this fall, we’re seeing a lot of that with twists and braids at maximum volume. Last year brought the return of long, thick Poetic Justice–style plaits, and while that trend isn’t over yet, we’re seeing shorter, more voluminous twists take center stage.

The key to pulling off a look like this is to keep the hair hydrated. Come see us for very affordable conditioning treatments and we carry a large array of fabulous products, we can help you find what best suits your hair while adding moisture and shine. A good texturizing paste will clean up the edges and give added grip to twists and braids. The key to keeping these textured updos modern is a deep side part, ladies. So go ahead, have fun, and rock those coils.

The half-up topknot movement will continue right into the fall, and we’re thrilled about it!

In a sense, this is the ultimate “aggressively natural” look, considering it was once reserved for yoga classes and hours behind the computer (you know you’ve made some half-up pencil masterpieces in your hair before!).

The one shift we’re seeing in this look is more texture in the hair that is left down. Using a double-barrel iron to create bends in the hair or simply braiding it when it’s damp will give you that perfectly undone feel. We love dry shampoo to create this kind of texture, it not only provides perfect grit and texture in the hair but will leave you smelling incredible for hours.

The textured shag is really exciting this fall. In a sense, it’s a reaction to the popular lob; with its minimal layers, the final look is textured, piecey, and sexy.

This is the shag 2.0: flatiron not needed. The textured shag works on really well on wavy or straight texture, but the key is getting the right bangs to flatter your face shape.

In order to get that natural-looking texture, blow out your hair using a root-lift spray at the crown for extra height. Once your top layer is blown out, feel free to rough-dry the rest for a naturally unfussed look.  A texturizing paste will add that perfect lived-in feeling.
