Makeup Tips

New Year’s is a time of planning and reflection. Most people set (but don’t always keep) resolutions on ways they can improve themselves or achieve goals.

This year, why not set new year beauty resolutions?

With these tips and solutions from experts in cosmetology programs, you can transform your skin, hair, nails, make-up routine, and confidence.

Beauty Tips

Take Off Your Makeup

Every time you fall asleep with your makeup still on, you’re clogging your pores and setting the stage for breakouts. Wash your face every night, or at the very least, keep cleansing wipes handy. If you keep a pack in your nightstand, there’s no excuse to fall asleep with makeup still on.

Use and Wash Makeup Brushes

Are you still putting on your makeup with your fingers? Stop! Brushes give you that flawless, blended look, helping you get the most out of your makeup. It’s important to keep your brushes clean, because dirty brushes trap bacteria, cause breakouts, and just don’t work as well as clean ones. You can either buy specialty brush-cleaning liquids, or use baby shampoo, and you should clean your brushes at least every two weeks.

Clean Out Your Makeup Stash

Make a fresh start in 2017 by tossing outdated and broken makeup. Most makeup products list their lifespan, but be mindful of when you opened them. When lip gloss gets gloppy, lipsticks or mascaras smell funny, or nail polish starts separating, it’s time to say goodbye. Hanging on to expired or unusable makeup isn’t being frugal — you’re setting the stage for skin irritation, breakouts, and eye infections. Toss out the old and welcome the new.

New Year’s Beauty Resolutions

Get Your Hair Trimmed Regularly

Even if you’re trying to grow your hair out long, don’t forgo regular trims. Trimming the ends stops fraying and breakage, which actually helps hair grow longer and look healthier. Be sure to schedule a trim every 6-8 weeks for healthy, beautiful hair.

Mind Your Nails

Manicures, whether they’re done at home or at a salon, go a long way to making your feel beautiful and confident. Your nails are one of the first things people notice about you, particularly when shaking hands. Give them the love they deserve with fun polishes, cuticle treatments, and moisturizing lotions.

Stop Dieting

Seriously! Rather than judging yourself based on numbers, strive to think about your body in terms of health, not size. Healthy looks better than thin, which is why it’s more important to eat healthy, nutrient-rich food than counting calories and jumping on diet fads. Eating wholesome food not only benefits your health, you’ll also see a difference in your hair, nails, and complexion.

While many New Year’s Resolutions are broken, these beauty solutions are ones you can keep all year long. Make this new year your most beautiful year yet by taking time to take care of yourself and your beauty products.
