Job Description
If you’re looking for a career that will help people uncover their best selves, becoming a skincare specialist may be a great fit. Estheticians help people take better care of their skin by performing a variety of body and facial treatments designed to improve or maintain the appearance and health of the skin. Focusing solely on skincare as it relates to generally health and beauty, skincare specialists do no diagnose or treat medical conditions but they can detect skin problems that may require medical attention (then referring them to dermatologists or other medical professionals).
Although skincare specialists perform many tasks, they generally evaluate skin, treat skin, apply makeup, suggest products and refer clients.
Job Outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of skincare specialists is projected to grow 17% from 2019 to 2029. This is much faster than the average for all occupations! The desire among many women and a growing number of men to reduce the effects of aging will result in employment growth and good job opportunities are expected. The projected increase in employment reflects the demand for services being offered, such as mini-sessions and mobile facials directly from skincare specialists rather than hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists.
