Head Off Winter Hair Woes

While masks aren’t just for dry, damaged hair — every head can benefit from a moisture surge once a week, you can especially benefit from them during winter. And even more so if you are guilty of committing girl-on-hair crime, whether it’s over coloring, heat styling, or overzealous detangling.

From hat hair to static electricity, split ends to dry frizz, when winter weather hits, a bad hair day can last an entire season. In fact, even if you live in a moderate climate, you’re still susceptible to hair-raising changes as the seasons change. The environment can have some of the most damaging effects on hair in both summer and winter, but in winter it’s often worse because people often don’t take as many precautions to protect their hair.

Sun exposure can be as intense on a ski slope as it is on a beach. Combine with winter elements, i.e. wind, snow, rain, and icy cold — which makes hair brittle and dry – they can all come together to create some pretty bad winter hair days.

And even if you plan to spend all your time in the ski lodge with some hot cocoa, rather than on the slopes, winter is still your hair’s enemy. Experts say dry indoor heating can be something akin to spending an entire afternoon under a hair dryer!

The good news: No matter what’s causing your winter hair woes, you can take both protective and replenishing steps. At the top of the list for most stylists: regular use of a thick, rich, moisturizing and conditioning mask with a few key ingredients. It will repair, rehydrate, and rebuild even the most desiccated hair. It rinses out to leave strands glossy, frizz-free, and strong enough to withstand the winter elements… or another round with the curling iron.

How it Works
To get the most out of your mask, look for keratin, amino acids, or essential fatty acids. Keratin masks deliver keratin deep into the hair shaft, strengthening from within while simultaneously sealing the cuticle layer.

It’s a myth that Keratin dries out your hair. Keratin is a naturally occurring protein that is extremely resistant to breakage and protects hair from sun damage, chlorine, heat styling appliances and chemical processes like color treatments and straightening systems. Keratin masks have an abundant amount of keratin to make your hair visibly stronger, shinier and healthier with each use. It is not possible to overuse keratin.
